Stress is a 'heightened response to a difficult and /or uncomfortable situation(s).' Stress occurs when a difficult or painful situation is left unresolved. This may be an experience of one or more things, and last for a long period of time. The feelings aroused by stress can leave us feeling tired, exhausted, with a loss of appetite or overeating, having disturbed sleep patterns, angry, irritable, lethargic, numb or hyperactive.

All of these feelings can lead us to burn out, and so it is important to understand how to manage your stress and identify the 'stressors' that lead you into unmanageable situations.

All of these feelings and experiences can be explored in counselling, by way of identifying the root cause of the stress and working to overcome it.
