Bereavement describes the feelings we experience after the death of a loved one. These feelings are very different for each individual, and no two experiences are ever the same. Because of this, we can often feel isolated and alone. Counselling can help you understand the grieving process and make sense of your own feelings. There are often feelings of anger, sadness, depression and loneliness.
These feelings can often accompany other types of loss; This could be identity - for example - "I used to be married", or perhaps family related - "I was somebody's sister" and this experience can often be further enhanced when children are involved, for example "I was my son's mother".
Grieving for a loved one can leave lots of unanswered questions around the death; counselling can help you try and work out some of the answers. Death is a part of life that we need to come to terms with in order to progress in our own lives. Feelings and experiences may need to be explored time and time again in order for the discomfort and despair, and the feelings of helplessness to ease. Counselling will give you the time you need, in a safe and understanding environment, to lead you back to emotional and physical well-being.
